Canadian War Cemetery in Holten
The Prince Bernard Culture Fund has given Annemiek Punt the honorable assignment to create a special work of art. This artwork will be placed in the facade of the information center at the Canadian War Cemetery in Holten, and will measure 2 meters x 1.50 meters. The information center on the Holterberg will soon be taken into use, and the artwork will be unveiled in mid-September.

“For all Generations”
This design represents the memories … the peace, freedom and happiness.
The open poppy within this design symbolizes liberation and gratitude. This flower is often associated with Memorial Day, and is also characteristic of Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep. The intensely red poppy represents the resting, or eternal sleep.
The importance of equality and liberty for all is emphasized by the rainbow colors that form the heart of the poppy. Within official symbolism, these colors represent diversity, acceptance andhope.
The poppy is depicted in a bright and peaceful environment. The attention of the viewer is pulled upwards, towards the light, which provides room for reflection. The dynamic and ascending line represents the history of freedom.
The fusion of all these symbols makes it possible for viewers to make personal stories visible. There is therefore given room for both recognition and recall. Everyone can see or recognizetheir own ‘thing’ in the window. Stories will be kept alive, for now and in the future: “for all generations”.
