Paintings on canvas and paper by Annemiek Punt

That Annemiek also draws and paints is still an unknown side of her. Riemko Holtrop, one of the pioneers of modern art since 1945, was one of her teachers. At age twelve, her mom took her to her first painting lessons. She was talented. “Actually,” Annemiek realized, “I have painted all my life”. At Holtrops she worked a lot with charcoal… In the gallery in Ootmarsum, a number of works on canvas and paper are exhibited.

Thomas More Window Put In The Lead -

March 2011
Annemiek Punt has cut all the glass for the Thomas More window. Where necessary, the glass is stained. And Annemiek used fused glass in this colorful, abstract window. The window will be placed in the Saint Christopher Cathedral in Roermond this April. At this moment, many pieces of mouth blown ‘real’ antique glass are put in the lead.

Annemiek Punt is creating a stained glass window for the Saint Christopher Cathedral in Roermond. This monumental window is a real ‘Punt’ again, dynamic, with picturesque lines and passionate use of color. The contemporary and abstract stained glass window measures 6.5 x 1.2 meters, and will be situated in the west side of the baptistery.

Prestigious commission

The Saint Christopher Cathedral in Roermond had recently given the signal for implementation. In the summer of 2010, Annemiek made the color sketch in her studio in Borculo. Now she is developing the full-size design. Using this design, the exact drawings will be made. When these molds are ready, thousands of pieces of handcut, mouth blown ‘real’ antique glass are put in the lead. The abstract window is expected to be installed mid 2011.

Strenght, faith and energy…
The inspiration for this abstract
window is the life of St. Sir Thomas
More, an English humanist, jurist, statesman and author of “Utopia”.

The blue, ascending part suggests a protective and comprehensive movement. The color blue is related to the baptism and immersion. The color yellow can be associated with wisdom, creativity and a great mind.

The ascending lines symbolize the new/eternal life. In the yellow part a figure emerges (as the defender of religion).

Justice and militancy are represented by the sword and scale.
