Denekamp ChurchThe theme of the stained glass window is the spirit of God. It features contemporary colours and line patterns and is created from light, transparent glass. The new window measures 81 cm by 2.80 metres and is located in the south apse, where the Holy Trinity altar is also located, consisting of an 18th century oak sculpture group of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Annemiek based her design on the metaphors of fire and wind because the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles in the form of fiery tongues and heavy wind.

The window was donated by a grateful parishioner who wishes to remain anonymous.

The Window Design

Inside the churchWe see a fiery tongue, as is so often depicted in the iconology above the heads of Mary and the apostles during the feast of Pentecost. The fiery tongue resembles a drop, symbolising the Source of life. The tongue also reminds one of the wind, reflecting the upward movement towards the heavens…”

A wooden dove hangs in front of the window. The dove is part of an oak sculpture group from the 18th century.
A lovely combination of contemporary art that is perfectly integrated into an old historic church.

To the right you can see the perfect combination of a classic Holy Trinity altar from the 18th century and Annemiek Punt’s contemporary stained glass window.

A window that will write history.
