Annemiek PuntAnnemiek Punt, (1959) has developed into a prominent artist over the past few decades. In 2003, she won a prestigious commission to do a new window in the Nieuwe Kerk in Delft (the church with the royal vault) and has become a familiar name to millions. Her work is on display across the world, from Amsterdam to Berlin and from Lekkerkerk to Nagasaki. She started her own studio in Denekamp at the age of 19 and studied stained glass making and staining in Germany. In the early 1980s, in addition to her work in the studio, Annemiek attended a five-year follow-up study programme at the AKI art academy of Enschede. In 1994, she settled permanently in Ootmarsum, where her studio and gallery are located in a former children’s home on Kloosterstraat.

Annemiek is an artist with a breakneck work pace, working directly from the heart, quickly and passionately, but always with a good dose of reality, not averse to using contemporary means and techniques. She is an artist who likes to experiment and has succeeded in turning this technique into something of secondary importance. Her abstract glass pieces, windows, sculptures and paintings are therefore highly innovative. It was for good reason that the Nieuwe Kerk jury was moved by the contemporary nature of her work and the members unanimously agreed that her window would remain interesting for many a year to come and would have considerable artistic value. Annemiek draws her inspiration from current events and history. Her inner response to the world in all its facets gives her work strength and energy. Movement, transparency and color characterise Annemiek’s work. She thinks and feels in colors, lines and light, and dreams in terms of ambience and ideas. Some feel there is a spiritual dimension to her work and derive strength from her art. Either way, anyone who sees her work discovers it from a different angle. What cannot be captured in words, Annemiek attempts to express visually in her work. Perhaps, in the end, that is why her art touches so many people, makes them curious and amazes them.
